Bone Fish White Label Dating Affiliate Programme

September 29, 2008

Press: Dating Ad Network, September 29th, 2008

Interview with Mike Fitzgerald, BoneFish.com

Q: How did you come up with the name “Bone Fish”?
A: Considering as we were the first white label company EVER to come on the scene and therefore we actually had carte blanche to choose whatever took our fancy, we chose a rather ambiguous name for our white label program and service.
We decided that we needed something that would subtly and elegantly express what we were trying to create on a more conceptual level, and as such, our line of thought took the following route.

We were going to provide a back end and platform that would enable affiliates to run sites of a dating nature, but we would be relatively invisible to the outside world - seen by only those that would do more than merely scratch the surface. To us, this business model appeared to be the analogy of a bone fish – otherwise known as the ghost or phantom fish. This fish is invisible when under water, rather like ourselves, who are powering a number of dating brands out of the limelight… Hence the name of the company.

Q: How is your affiliate program different from the others?
A: Our program is different in that we offer multiple and very specific niches that – unlike some providers out there – are actually real and are very much defined. As such, we can assure our affiliates that their sites really are made up of specific types of people, which of course helps to capture a better target audience and thus generate more profit for the affiliate.

Also, due to having a very large database of members from all around the world, we offer affiliates the chance to target multiple locations and countries rather than just the UK or USA, which is the norm amongst our competitors. So this – combined with the fact that our niches are defined and very extensive – makes us stand out from the crowd.

And finally, with Bone Fish all affiliates can benefit from our complete customization tools too. Each and every site can be fully branded to suit an affiliate’s needs, and when we perform a site integration (where an affiliate integrates a dating site into their existing site), we adhere 100% to their brand and identity. Perhaps this is why we have a 90% referral rate from our affiliates and a very solid reputation in the market place.

Q: Who are your customers and how do they benefit from your program?
A: A large portion of our affiliates are home-based webmasters that are striving to work full time for themselves through a larger organization such as ourselves. Another portion are independent online marketers and affiliate managers that wish to expand their affiliate portfolio by working with a number integral programs. So I suppose that our customers are a wide range of professionals and entrepreneurs from varied walks of life.

And they benefit in many ways. By signing up with us, our affiliates are immediately provided with a complete backbone and platform to enable them to set up a dating or adult site at the touch of a button and tap into what is considered one of the most lucrative markets out there today. In approximately 24-hours, they can have a fully-branded, pre-populated site up and running and attracting new members, as well as the use of customer services and accounts departments, immediate access to a database of up to 4 million members and even site integrations for existing brands.

The whole program works on a revenue share scheme, giving all affiliates a minimum of 50% commission, which incidentally – due to our company being based in Gibraltar – is 100% tax free. No other white label provider can offer their affiliates this much.

Q: How big is your network?
A: At the moment, we have around 15,000 live sites and 4,000 webmasters around the world. These sites are of very varying themes - from romance, adults, gays and fetish, to black networks, Asian networks, disabled and Christian. The list of niches really is never ending.

Q: Can you tell us about the common mistakes that your affiliates make and how they can be avoided?
A: Of course, each and every affiliate comes across their own stumbling blocks and to begin with, they all make a mistake or two. But I suppose the most common mistake is probably spending too much time tinkering with a site rather than concentrating on the marketing side of things. You have to remember that with Bone Fish, the site is pre-built, pre-populated and fully customizable right from the word “GO”. It’s a money making machine right from the start, and although most affiliates want to ensure that everything is 100% design-wise etc, and that the content is vast and varied, they need to remember that unless the site is marketed and promoted to the rest of the world, it’s just not going to make them money. And yes, their site may look pretty, but it won’t necessarily make them a penny.

Q: How does Bone Fish Ltd fight fraud and scam?
A: Bone Fish has tried to combat the matter of fraud and scamming by bringing on-board a full time risk manager whose sole role is to deal with issues of this nature. We have a number of bespoke systems in place that have been built on years of experience and we always make it our number one priority to provide an environment that is as safe and secure as it can be for both our members and our affiliates.

Because this subject is so extensive, I would suggest that those who want to know a little more about it visit the following page. Here, we discuss the matter at great length. http://www.onlinepersonalswatch.com/news/datingcentral/index.html

Q: Sites always need more traffic. Do you have any tips on generating and retaining traffic on dating websites?
A: The Bone Fish service alone sends over 5 million emails a month to drive an affiliate’s members back to their branded sites and to keep them interested in their product. When you consider our business model, you realize that this is not something that an affiliate needs to worry about as retaining members is 100% Bone Fish’s responsibility.

New traffic is unfortunately an affiliate’s responsibility though, and as such, it is imperative that generating visitors is a number one priority. New traffic is all about unique, relevant content and good SEO. So, I would say that understanding Google Sitemaps, Analytics etc is essential to make good head way. In the same manner, I also always advise that affiliates take the time to seek out some of the many tools that are out there to help generate that bit more. Many are free and quite a few are very useful indeed.

And finally, I always recommend that affiliates opt for banner exchanges and exchange links as they can both be great traffic generators too.

Q: What are the hottest niches, technologies and new trends in the online dating industry?
A: I would have to say that at the moment, the best converting niche networks are lesbian, soft fetish / adult and BBW.

Of course, as far as technology goes, trends do tend to come and go. However, those that are really in with a fighting chance of staying on the online dating scene are technologies that push the use of webcams (i.e. for speed dating), and social networking. Having said this though, this is not actually what online dating is really all about. After all, if you’re too shy to meet a girl in a bar, you’ll be too shy to chat on a webcam – don’t you think?

Q: How can potential affiliates join the white label dating program?
A: Joining the Bone Fish affiliate program is easy. Simply follow the sign up process and have a dating/adult/networking site up and running in less than 24 hours. There are no set up costs and no infrastructure is needed, and you can quite literally hit the ground running and start making money at the drop of a hat.

To take a more in-depth look at how the Bone Fish affiliate program works, I suggest that you check out www.bone-fish.com.

FAQ`s: Scamming and Fraud on the Bone Fish Service

What kind of scamming has Bone Fish been encountering on its affiliate sites?
About 90% of the scamming on Bone Fish`s sites has come from Russian and African scammers. Russian scammers are primarily looking for people to send money to Russian women or to entice members to send airfares and give gifts, etc. African scammers are slightly different in that they send out emails relating tales of woe and stating that they have a great deal of money sitting in a bank account in Uganda and are looking for assistance to transfer it into an overseas bank account for a percentage of the sum (or similar).

Bone Fish has tried to combat this matter by bringing on-board a full time risk manager whose sole purpose is to deal with the scamming issue. At present, this is our number one priority as it affects our reputation with banks, members and affiliates etc, who are obviously being hit by the chargebacks on a weekly basis.

Has Bone Fish ever encountered any types of scamming through its affiliates and has it ever had any scammers sign up as affiliates?
About three years ago, Bone Fish had a person from India register as an affiliate. However, upon seeing his average sales rocket about twice as high as its own, Bone Fish realized that something was wrong. This person`s conversion rate was about 40-50% instead of the typical 10-15%. Fortunately, Bone Fish caught him at an early stage and cancelled his account. Essentially, Bone Fish tries to cut out scammers before they become affiliates (or for that matter, members too). As a result, it doesn`t allow and also heavily screens new affiliates from certain countries, especially those from Russia, India and Africa.

What does Bone Fish think the industry should do to beat scammers?
Bone Fish is always searching on the internet for places that work as "scammer centrals". It has come across a few websites that list 5,000-7,000 members that are known scammers, but does not necessarily think that this is the right approach as they only list the names of the individual members (scammers) that are contacting members on the service - not where they come from!

In Bone Fish`s opinion, what the industry needs is a white list and a black list of IP ranges. For example, here, we use an application on our credit card page that grabs the IP address. As such, we`ve blocked approximately 25% of all IP addresses in the world already. Ultimately, Bone Fish feels that the industry should consider ISP and server-side solutions rather than just creating a large database that`s simply updated from time-to-time. Ideally, a site needs to be put together from a technical point of view that will allow people to share techniques on how to block scamming.

Employee Spotlight: Gareth Beckley

Gareth joined the Bone Fish Team in February 2008 and dedicates his time to providing technical documentation on the Bone Fish systems and processes. Gareth can be emailed at: gareth@bone-fish.com.

Who are you and where do you come from?
I grew up in Liverpool and after being shunned by the first team, I moved out to Spain where I was overwhelmed by the Spanish lifestyle and culture. (I love Spanish potato omelette and paella). I live on the Costa del Sol with my two big puppies. I`m single at the moment... (if anyone`s interested, you`ll be pleased to know that all three of us are house-trained). I cross the border every day to go to work in Gibraltar and have learnt to have patience with Spanish and Gibraltarian drivers alike. However, one ignorant female very nearly killed me yesterday - I ride the world`s second fastest production bike - a Kawaski ZX-12R, so I wasn`t best pleased and my patience is now wavering.

What is it that you do at Bone Fish?
I joined the Bone Fish team in February 2008 after working for the past 15 years in the pharmaceutical industry. I was brought in as a Technical Author but I also assess new technologies and procedures. What else... well... I love to get involved in fault resolution - which here at Bone Fish can sometimes be challenging (to say the least). Hopefully in the future I`ll be an integral part of the development team.

If you weren`t working in this industry what would you be doing instead?
I would be in care.

What`s the best thing about working at Bone Fish?
The best thing about working at Bone Fish is that it gives me the opportunity to work at the cutting-edge of internet technologies and allows me to grow and gain knowledge as the company expands. We also play fantastic music in the office - although this usually occurs when Mike`s in and we`re not being forced to listen to Man 2 Man Meets Man Parish or some of Dolly Parton`s Classics.

What are boss Mike`s good and bad points?
I like Mike because he`s not afraid to show his emotions and indeed often cries when he successfully unites 2 kindred spirits. Really, I can only fault his taste in music and his unwillingness to pin his colours to any mast, be it Man U, City or Stockport County. I believe that with his Irish heritage, underneath his 6`4` muscular frame there`s at least 2 Liverpool supporters fighting to get out.Explain to the world why Bone Fish is the greatest white label dating provider ever!We have a very united team with very specialised and advanced skills, and we actually really care about our members and affiliates.

Getting about a bit

Mike Fitzgerald, BoneFish CEO Interview

OPW INTERVIEW -- Sep 18 -- Mike Fitzgerald is the CEO of BoneFish and interviewed with me on the subject of internet dating scamming and how to stop scammers. - Mark Brooks

What kind of scamming have you encountered on Bone Fish’s affiliate sites?
About 90% of the scamming on Bone Fish’s sites has come from Russian and African scammers.

I would say that at the moment, it is probably our number one priority as it affects our reputation with banks, members and affiliates, who are obviously being hit by the chargebacks on a weekly basis.

Do you ever encounter any types of scamming through the affiliates? Do you ever have any scammers sign up as affiliates?
About three years ago, we had someone from India register as an affiliate. However, upon seeing the affiliate’s average sales rocket about twice as high as our own, we realized that something was wrong. Their conversion rate was about 40-50% instead of 10-15%. Fortunately, we caught them at an early stage and cancelled their account. That's the only scammer I know of who actually signed up as an affiliate. At the end of the day we try to cut scammers out before they become affiliates. As a result, we don't allow – and we heavily screen – new affiliates from certain countries. For example, potential affiliates from Russia, India and Africa.

How do scammers affect the reputation of your sites and services?
Members that have belonged to the service for two or three years and see some form scamming going on do tend to inform us of the problem so that we can remove the scammer(s) from the site. But, if he/she is a new member who has just registered, it is a very awkward situation and it makes us look very unprofessional. However, we do take measures to assure members that their information is safe and that they will meet genuine people on the site. We also take great measures to ensure that members are not contacted by scammers from Russia or Africa, because if they are contacted – especially within their first two or three weeks of being on the site – then it simply looks terrible.

What can the industry do to beat scammers?
Many a time I've looked on the internet for places that work like a “scammer central”. I've managed to find a few websites that list 5,000-7,000 members who are known scammers. However, I do not think that this is the right approach as it lists the names of the individual members (the scammers) that are contacting the members – not where they come from! What I think the industry needs is a white list and a black list of IP ranges. For example, at Bone Fish Ltd we use an application on our credit card page that grabs the IP address. As such, we have blocked approximately 25% of all IP addresses in the world and still continually adding to the list on a regular basis. I’m hoping that this will catch some 95% of scammers.

With this in mind I don't think that having profiles of known scammers is the way forward. I think people need to sit down and actually look at the more technical side of it and determine where these people are actually coming from. Are they signing up in the UK, paying from Africa and then sending the messages from Africa? Or are they using IP masking tools to stop people from detecting their location? I think that these are the real issues rather than the specific members. I think we need to look at ISP and server-side solutions rather than having a great big database that's simply updated. Ideally, someone needs to put together a site from a technical point of view that will allow people to share techniques on how to block scamming.

Do you have any tips for smaller sites and services to beat scammers?
Yes, at Bone Fish Ltd we do employ a few measures that I am happy to share with you. I think the first thing smaller sites and services should do is get themselves an IP scanning tool which scans the IP addresses of all members that sign up to the site. Coupled with this, I would opt for one of the various merchants or banks on the internet, obtain a list of known high-risk countries and essentially impede all of these countries from being able to access the service – both on the credit card page and during the registration processes. (You have to remember that scammers can sign up in the UK and then pay through Africa, so special attention must be paid to these pages in particular).

The second thing I would recommend to smaller sites is a message frequency service which analyzes the number of messages a member sends out in a day. As such, owners of these sites can then analyze what is going out, and flag anybody who is sending 40 or 50 messages on a daily basis. This will help to assess who needs to be watched carefully and will essentially ensure that these members are not scamming other members. These are perhaps two primary things that will go a long way towards stopping scamming.

And finally, the third thing I would do is have an email centre which stops .fr and .ru from logging into the service. The Ivory Coast uses .fr and Russia uses .ru. However, this will only work until scammers figure out that they are being blocked. But for the time being, it will certainly get rid of inexperienced scammers. Because every little helps.

Coming Soon to Bone Fish

As we get ready for the weekend ahead, the members of the Bone Fish offices take a look back at what they`ve achieved over the past few days. Many, many sites have been put together and are now set to be launched, the Programming Department has once again been working harder than ever to polish off the final touches to the new member`s area, and the Affiliate Department has been working on an extra funky feature to hopefully ensure that our affiliates always stay in "the know".

This week, we`re proud to inform you that very, very soon, you`ll not only be kept up-to-date via the admin centre and through these newsletters, but also through our a fantastic new (and very simple-to-use) blog.

Why - you may ask. Well, many of you out there don`t have the time to stop and read our corporate communications and very few of you have the time to stay in touch with your designated personal account manager. Hence why we`ve created The Bone Fish Blog - an online virtual community centre where you`ll always be able to see what`s been going on here in Gibraltar (and see what`s new with the actual team), as well as retrieve old newsletters, affiliate communications and the like. Here in this blog, you`ll also be able to keep a watchful eye on what the media are saying about us, and check out where we appear, in the press and why.

Ultimately, this blog will not only contain all previous email notifications and the latest company news etc, but it`ll also let you know what we, the team, have been up to - because after all, we are actually real people that sit behind these screens and keyboards. At the end of the day, we really hope that this blog will provide our affiliates with a virtual new home where they can always have their say, and most importantly of all, be a place where they can feel free to express their opinions openly and confidently. As such - and when we`re up and running with the blog - we ask that you go ahead and post as many comments as you wish, and make as many suggestions as and when you see fit.

Our blog is your blog, and we`re sure that it`ll give us all a chance to get to know each other a bit better on a more personal level.Keep watching this space - we`ll let you know when it actually goes live and when you can start nattering away.

Until then, have a fantastic weekend and (hopefully) another very productive week...

Kind regards,

The Bone Fish Affiliate Team

Both JULY & AUGUST bonuses have been banked

This summer when it has come to bonus targets, the Bone Fish affiliates really have pushed the boat out. This morning, whilst taking a look at the July bonuses ready for payment via BACS, we stumbled upon the results for August`s targets too. And what we found was simply overwhelming. For the first time ever, our affiliates have hit the 10,000-mark - IN BONUSES ALONE (not commissions AND bonuses combined!!!). As you can imagine, the affiliate department is over the moon at this result and is really very, very pleased that you`ve all pushed your sites to the max to make them work. And so it goes without saying that of course, you`ll all be duly rewarded for your efforts. With this in mind, for this month - and for THIS MONTH only - we`ve decided to shed out August`s bonuses with July`s, to enable you to celebrate your hard work and good fortune in style. So, if you`ve taken part in the 100% Commission Scheme and have smashed your bonus targets, take a look in your bank account around Tuesday of next week (16th) and enjoy two-month`s commission in one! Keep up the good work... and don`t spend it all at once!

The Bone Fish Guide to Online Marketing

Over the past few months we`ve taken the time to introduce you to the basic concepts of online marketing. We`ve looked into a variety of PPC search engines, have advised where best to advertise, and have looked at how to set up and actually run an online campaign. However, this has not been an easy feat - especially when considering that some of you have more background knowledge and experience in this area than others. As a result, this week we`re going to take a different approach with our teaching method and give you the chance to choose between one of two videos - basic and advanced. With this in mind, we hope to have the newbies keep up and not get lost at every corner, and hopefully give the more advanced affiliates something to get their teeth into rather than boring their bones off for the tenth time running. Enjoy!

Speaking in Tongues

Welcome to another Friday newsletter fun-packed with information and news from the Bone Fish offices and Affiliate Programme. As we mentioned last Friday, this week we want to draw your attention to one of our latest partners who`s located right on our doorstep - Andy Baker.

Andy, founder of the site http://www.costalove.com/ (as well as http://www.hotadultsex.co.uk/, http://www.gaymates4u.com/ and http://www.swingingmates4u.com/... amongst others), joined forces with Bone Fish Ltd some six months ago to produce a portfolio of portals that covers just about every niche out there - and... in a variety of languages.

With the help of his site developers at http://www.funky-love.net/, Andy`s aim was to design a modern and upbeat portal that would bring together people from the UK, Portugal and Spain - as well as many other countries in the world.

However, he also wanted to take things a little further than this. Andy chose to go for a multi-lingual portal that would enable him to hit a wider market on the Iberian Peninsula - and it seems that only a few months later, he has actually achieved it.

Living on the Costa del Sol in Spain himself, he opted for a variety of niche sites (from romance and adult, to gays and swingers) in English, Spanish and (to satisfy the neighboring country which is largely unexploited), Portuguese. And so if you take a look at his main site http://www.costalove.com/, you`ll see just how far Andy has gone to satisfy the needs (and sexual preferences) of those living in these countries.

And that`s not all. Taking the white label concept one step further, Andy is now looking to offer a new type of subscription too.

"VIP Membership" as it`s been dubbed, will shortly be yet another option for his networking members, and is planned to include everything from personal home visits (for selected locations) to a selection of preferential rates for special events such as restaurant evenings, singles holidays, wine tasting nights, speed dating and weekend breaks. It seems that this affiliate has thought of everything!

Once again, Bone Fish Ltd would like to wish both Andy Baker and his "Costa Love" network the very best of luck, and really does hope to see great things achieved from this relationship. Bone Fish also hopes that Andy will inspire the rest of our affiliates to explore other possibilities and to uncover additional ways in which to make the most of the white label model.

Until next week....

Kind regards,

The Bone Fish Affiliate Team

Commissions are coming

It`s that time of the month again. The time when your bank balance looks a little healthier and brighter, and you feel a little better. Pay Day! As such, you`ll be interested to know that those that are normally paid via BACS will see their account rise on Monday or Tuesday of next week (6th/7th); those that have opted for PayPal, on Friday 12th; and those that are paid by cheque... on the 16th. Remember, it`s never too late to change the way in which you receive your commissions. Don`t wait - change your payment method now and have your commissions in your hand so much faster.

And let`s not forget that all Bone Fish Ltd needs to perform an immediate payment via BACS is your UK account number and sort code. (If you haven`t got your own bank account, Bone Fish is even happy to transfer funds into a family member`s, close friend`s or associate`s account instead). Simply send us through the details so that next month you can pocket your pounds and bag your bonuses much earlier.Don`t wait- change your payment method right now.

... And Bonuses are Back

And finally, you`ll be pleased to know that if you`re taking part in the 100% bonus scheme, you can now find your bonus targets in the admin centre. Once again the targets are very attainable and will hopefully help you take home that bit more - all you have to do is work for it!

According to industry statistics, the mature entertainment sector is a billion-dollar industry a year with 70 million people visiting at least one adult website per week worldwide. Over the past decade Bone Fish Ltd – the first-ever white label dating provider in history – has opened up this market and created a white label affiliate program that allows any entrepreneur from any sector to take advantage of all that the lucrative field has to offer.

The affiliate program, which now boasts over 14,000 partners and 3.7 million members, provides an entire platform and backbone that allows webmasters, marketers, online professionals, affiliate managers and the like, to set up, execute and operate a fully-customized, pre-populated dating or adult networking site at the touch of a button. In fact, within 24 hours of registering, affiliates can be up-and-running and turning a profit. Because with the typical subscription fee being between the 20 and 40 dollar-mark for an adult site (and the typical retention period being a minimum of 3 to 4 months), when promoted and marketed correctly, it is highly likely to generate an outstanding revenue stream practically overnight.

What’s more, all Bone Fish affiliate solutions for both dating and adult-orientated websites are free of charge, and include all intricacies associated with a structured company of its kind – customer services, accounts department, technical assistance, access to over 30 niche markets and numerous site templates, as well as comprehensive site integrations for affiliates with existing brands who wish to incorporate networking services into their existing sites.

It is perhaps elements such as these that have allowed Bone Fish Ltd to gain such a solid positioning in the marketplace. As the oldest, most experienced and certainly most trusted white label dating provider, Bone Fish Ltd has earned itself a reputation as a company that dons personalized professionalism at all times. To date, it boasts an exceptional 90% referral rate for new affiliates, and is thoroughly delighted that its partners recommend and trust in the Bone Fish program, service and name, time and time again. Furthermore, with the highest payouts in the industry (and a minimum commission fee of 50% plus numerous bonuses on a regular basis – and all tax free), Bone Fish Ltd really does stand out against the rest whilst taking the world of online affiliate dating to a completely new level.

At present, the scheme welcomes applications from all those that are looking to tap into the field – regardless of company size or residence – and pledges to do its utmost to help new partners enjoy the vast benefits that the sector has to offer. Because with the Bone Fish backbone and a well-defined and marketed brand, the possibilities with the program and its projected sales are limitless.
